RYA Day Skipper 14 Day Fast Track and 9 Day Combined Courses with BOS Gibraltar and Barcelona 2017/18

Hi Susie
Hans Sorensen revising aboard BOS Yacht

Now on my way back home from a very nice vacation. I joined Blue Oyster Day Skipper Practical and Theory in Gibraltar. My practical trainer a very skilled sailor and has excellent skills in teaching and passing on his knowledge. I learned a lot from him, so now I feel skilled and safe going on my own as captain on yacht. And as an extra bonus he knows the Gibraltar history and he is a very nice person to be with, great guy. We had a great crew and an amazing week that I will never forget.

My best recommendation:) RYA Day Skipper Theory with Duncan Pell. He made me work hard every day never gave me a chance to slip away. Very qualified in teaching sailing theory. Made me feel secure in navigating and all other procedures related to being a captain. Interesting person to be with we had many great talks.

Days I will never forget.
Best Regards Hans H. Sørensen BOS RYA Day Skipper.

'You can complete these courses at either of our Bases and all courses are now Tidal. With an easy transfer between Gibraltar and Barcelona you may also split the courses and sail at both bases.'

Chris Lamer, Grazziano, Peter Henderson and Simon Ferrier
Hi Susie,
Many thanks, I arrived back just before midnight on Friday, tired but it was a smooth drive back. It was a great week, lots of good comradery and Steve was an excellent tutor. Friday afternoon's sail back from L'Escala when the wind picked up was a great finish to the week. I got lots out of the week and learnt all the things I wanted to do to start some sailing on yachts with the family this summer. I am interested in doing the coastal skipper, probably next year and will keep in touch. Kind regards, Simon

Hi Guys, Thanks . I did have a great week, and will keep in touch re future courses . Until then, Christian

Susie,
Thank you, I had a great time. Steve sets a very good example. There’s so much for me to learn and I’d like to do this as soon as possible. PS.  I should have emphasised that i do very much appreciate the flexibility that you demonstrated, since I booked my course well over a year ago, and that I intend to take as many of my future courses with your school. Cheers, Peter

Hi Susie,

I just wanted to say thank you.

I really enjoyed the Competent Crew course. Steve (RYA Instructor) was great, the experience and the comfort level I gained were incredibly rewarding.

I'd like to come back to take the day skipper course. I'm not entirely sure when but I've been thinking about spending the month of my 35th birthday (March this coming year) traveling in Spain and would love to know what availability you have (at both locations-I might want to sail from Gibraltar if the weather is too cold in Barcelona Palamós because I'm a wimp) for that month. If the timing works I think it would be a great way to celebrate my birthday. If the timing doesn't work we'll find a time that does!

Alistair Russell BOS RYA Day Skipper Practical Course
Dear Susie

I would just like to give you some feedback on last weeks Day Skipper course that I attended.
The boat was ideal for the number of people on it, well stocked with all the refreshments and food we needed. The sailing route we took was spectacular, giving us a great week of sailing.

Moving on to our instruction. I would like to thank Steve for his seemingly never ending patience. His knowledge knows no bounds. I personally gained a huge amount of information and sailing experience day by day. I know this will make me a better sailor and enable me to get the most out of future sailing opportunities.

Could you please forward this to Steve as I have no contact details for him and let him know that the Reeds Skipper Handbook has been ordered and will be fully utilised. Once again many thanks for a well organised course.

I will happily recommend Blue Oyster Sailing.

Kind regards Alistair Russell BOS RYA Day Skipper Practical Course August 2016

Will Stewart successfully completed his 15 week BOS Fast Track Yachtmaster Course and is now off to work with Pavol in Croatia. With Will is Ashley who completed her Fast Track BOS RYA Day Skipper Course. Well done to both of you! Ashley Reviews her BOS course.

Susie, I am currently in beautiful Barcelona, but dreaming of being back on a student filled sail boat rocking the Costa Brava waters. I had a wonderful time and feel I learned so much in the Day Skipper course. Thank you for a great experience along with a great crew. You were so clear and concise in your lessons, Mark is very knowledgable on sea breezes, not the drink... Charlie is awesome- great and relaxed, and Steve... Probably the coolest guy in Spain. I really enjoyed all of you. On top of a great school, I feel like I met some really cool people and hope to know them for a long time. I came into Blue Oyster for an adventure on holiday, but now that I've finished my course; I'm itching to turn from my motor yachting career to a sailing one. Thanks for opening my eyes to this world. Now if you know anyone who wants a Day Skipper please open their eyes to me!

Sincerely,  Ashley Warren Ashmwarren@gmail.com

Hi Susie
It was a pleasure to do the BOS Fast Track Yachtmaster offshore with you and your excellent instructors (Charlie and Oliver).
I want to say thank you for everything, I gained so much experience, I met fantastic people, made friends, sailed on various boats, seen places, lived a dream.
Two weeks after my RYA Yachtmaster Offshore final exam I was offered a job in Greece to skipper a boat  "which was as easy as Sunday morning" :)

I am ready for the next step in my life and take the new challenge.

Thank you once again.

Blue Oyster Sailing Review by Brian Smith RYA Day Skipper Combined Course 2016 - Many Thanks +34 629 881 923

Brian Smith Day Skipper Combined Course
Hello Susie,
Just a note to thank you for the recent Combined Theory/Practical Day Skipper Course.  This was perfect for me, as it enabled me to refresh the practical skills after some years break from sailing.  Importantly, it filled in and  updated many areas, such as navigation and safety, where my knowledge was lacking.
The personal attention was excellent, and the mixing of practical and theory meant that good balance was maintained throughout the nine days.  I particularly appreciated the fact that extra support was made available when I needed it - ie - navigation!  The learning materials and workbooks were also really helpful.
The most important result has been to give me the confidence to sail safely this year, and to build on the knowledge and skills I now possess.  I would certainly hope to build on this by doing a Coastal Skipper course (hopefully in 2017):  there is no question that I would want to do this with you!  I appreciate, too, the offer of ongoing contact and support this year.

I absolutely recommend Blue Oyster Sailing (Barcelona Sailing School) to anyone wishing to learn about sailing or to improve their skills.

With thanks and very best wishes!

Duncan Pell Fast Track Yachtmaster Course Blue Oyster Sailing Barcelona Gibraltar Morocco Portugal 2015/16

Blue Oyster Fast Track Student Duncan Pell
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Student Duncan Pell. I’d no idea what to expect when I set off for Spain. I booked my place in February 2015 when it seemed a great idea and an impressive project to tell friends about. But then came reality, it was summer and I was in Barcelona to start fifteen weeks of Fast Track Yachtmaster Training. With very little experience of sailing, I was nervous about the challenges ahead and whether I could tolerate all that time living on boats - I wondered what the instructors, students, food, cabins, weather and exams would be like.
Well, in short, it was brilliant fun. Definitely challenging but very rewarding. The sense of triumph when the examiner shook my hand and congratulated me on passing, was fantastic. But it wasn’t just my achievement and I’m very grateful to many other people. Particularly to the patient, friendly and encouraging Blue Oyster instructors - Mark, Susie, Charlie and Oliver. Then there’s all the students who helped make life aboard so enjoyable.
I sailed over 4000 nautical miles with Blue Oyster visiting the Balearics, Gibraltar, North Africa and many Spanish ports. I sailed on seven boats and met about sixty students of different ages and backgrounds. Would I do it again? It’s an emphatic ‘yes’

RYA/MCA Master Of Yachts 200gt Fast Track 15 Weeks Lauren Passes! Join us in 2015/16 Gap Year and Fast Track.

Susie

Thanks. I cannot express how grateful and appreciative I am for everything you've done for me. You've taught me a tremendous amount of things about sailing, management and life in general. I came expecting to become a sailor and quickly realised all the experiences I have endured have helped me to become a better person. And for that, I thank you! You run an incredible sailing school! I think your advantage over other sailing schools is the quaility of instruction(all the instructors truly care about the advancement of students) and the close -knit family feel. I know sometimes you think it would be great to have more boats and skippers but being taught by a few similar styled instructors provides many benefits, such as consistency. Over all I just wanted to let you know I currently think the world of your school and style of program you provide. I couldn't have imagined having a better 3 month sailing experience! Blue Oyster & Palamos will always be apart of me I will definately be back. Thank you for everything! And if you're ever in Canada you have a place to stay. Have fun with sailing  and your daughter Harriet xx. Contact us here for further training information.

Blue Oyster Gibraltar RYA Annual Inspection Completed - Well Done Bravo Zulu (BZ) from RYA Inspector Mike Dymond.

The Blue Oyster Sailing Gibraltar RYA Inspection was successfully completed on 27 May 2015. The photo shows Sailing Yacht Dogstar our Beneteau Oceanis 473 arriving in Sotogrande. Gibraltar provides a spectacular back drop behind her.

RYA Inspector Mike Dymond completed the RYA Centre Inspection and his comments were forwarded to RYA in the UK. "Very good Inspection" he wrote. Mike ended his Inspection Report with the term BZ or Brava Zulu. The expression caught us all on the hop.

For those of you who are looking up BZ it is an old Naval expression for Well Done! Thumbs up for all the students on board and BZ to all involved in the Annual RYA Inspection.
